On Friday, NASA successfully made contact with the moon using the LCROSS. They were hoping to discover water on the moon. Why would scientists want to find water there? If there is water, how may lives here change? Try to support responses with reasoning and sources that can be shared. Also, please feel free to include other comments, questions or information about this topic.

Why do scientists want to kno if there is water on the moon?...Well i did some reearch and i found out that a group of british scientists estimated regions where water could be found on the moon, but never really went after it. I guess that since we are becoming more and more "advanced" each day, the idea of actually having a colony on the moon doesn't even sound so far fetched anymore. So our scientists decided to go out and bomb the moon. They want to see if having a colony on the moon is a realistic idea and what they would need to make that come true.
How may our lives change?...Well, if water was found on the moon, im sure that all of planet earth will become one huge commotion. I think one question that would arise would be "So if theres water on the moon, who knows what there is on all the other planets of our solar system?". Scientists all over the world will start to send spacecrafts and do the same thing we did.Traffic in space?...anyways, i think that there will be quit some chaos here on planet earth. Besides all the protests telling scientists to "not disturb the heavenly beings" there will be chaos and fights between the scientists themselves. I think from that point on all scientists in the world will put forth evrything theyve got to make the whole "colony on the moon" thing.. a reality.
At the same time it kinda scares me, where on the other end it amazes me. Literally just yesterday a colony on the moon was only something seen in movies, and the closest weve ever gotten to it was a movie set in hollywood. What im actually thinking about is, what if the missil caused some sort of shift in the moons orbit? What would happen? Would global warming become worse? While doing my research many people had questions similiar to this...the effects on the earth's weather due to (even the slightest) shift on the moon would bring chaos and problems beyond our imagination. Then comes the whole problem and controversy with the agnostics..."the heavenly beings should not be disturbed" said one of them. Imagine all the protest and controversy that would break out??!!
I guess all we could do is wait.

I think it'd be so cool if we found water on the Moon. The thing is just because there is water on the Moon, doesn't mean we can live there. We'd need an atmosphere, food, ect. We'd also have to start from scratch.
ReplyDeleteBefore we start hoping from planet to planet, I think we need work on our own first. This earth was made for us. Well, actually, we were made for the earth. Even if we did find water on the Moon, Mars and other planets and were able to live on them, if we don't change our habits, then eventually we will kill of that planet, then the next and then... uh oh there aren't any planets left. Yeah, i think it;d be cool to live on the Moon for a month, but we should fix ours before we don't care any more because we can take over some other planet when we're finished with this one.
ReplyDelete1) I think scientists want to find water on the moon so they could use to power fuel cells or give the astronauts something to drink.
ReplyDelete2)I don't think anyone ones life would change if there is water on the moon. It would just be a new fact. It could impact the lifes of people in the future who might live on the moon but thats unlikely because there isn't enought water there to do much...The article i read said that there is about a quart of water per ton of lunar soil.
i found two articles about water on the moon. The fists one is about three lunar spacecraft that found hydroxyl (O-H bond in water) on the moon, which means that theres a good chance for water.

I dont understand why scientists want to find water on earth? Why are they messing up the moon? shouldnt they worrie out earth instead of other places where we can live?

Why are scientist trying to find water on the moon? Also, are they trying to find out if we could ever live there?
ReplyDeleteShannon.
Have scientist ever found out if their was other kinds of life on the moon?

I found this article that confims that there is water on the moon. It also explains how they might extract it.
